OLIVENZA Modernist House

On Calle José Moreno Nieto, popularly known as ‘de los baldosines’ (little tiles) and, formerly, ‘rua do Buraco do Juiz’, is the only modernist house in Olivenza. It is one of the houses built after the change of nationality of Olivenza, more towards the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century by the Bourgeois who replaced the Portuguese nobles who owned the land in the area.

Although the street is narrow because it is part of the old Jewish quarter and does not provide much perspective, the façade features the typical elements of this elegant, cheerful and modern style—strength, asymmetry, irregularity, nature, figures, skylights and materials such as cast iron and glass, which can be seen on the balconies.
